NOTE ON ECOSYSTEM ACTIVITY - Velugu Association
Ecosystem services are defined as the process and conditions of the natural systems that support human activity. Biodiversity plays an important role in the way ecosystems function and in the services they provide.  Bio-diversity took place a major role in mitigating climate change by contributing to the long term sequestration of carbon in a number of bio-mass.  It is through bio-diversity that a sequential balance of CO2 and O2 is maintained.Â
The loss of biodiversity and related changes in the environment are now faster than ever before and there is no sign of this process slowing down.  As a result, the forest declines day by day, and wild food or uncultivated food availability decreases.  And also the existing forestry trees are coming down. And the soil erosion increases its resulting existing streams dried or flowing in few months only. Based on these circumstances we have initiated the forestry regeneration program.
Objectives:
v To develop and regenerate the wild food or uncultivated food availability increased.
v Drastically depleted forestry species regenerated and availability increased.
v To improve the status of biodiversity by safeguarding ecosystems and species.
v To conserve protect and sustain the bio-diversity.
v To increase soil and moisture retention in the area.
ACTIVITIES:
Ø Mapping the depleted forestry species in the area.
Ø Organize meetings and trainings with different stakeholders.
Ø  Forest species Seed collection and plant them in the area.
Ø Protection of the planted forest species and regenerated area.
Ø Community guarding.
Ø Convergence with MGNREGS and the forest department.
We are selected Sundarayyaguda and Gesulaguda villages 160000 seeds collected and planted in both villages.  The survival is good. Community taking more responsibility for the planted plants' survival aspects. We have a plan to do the progress documentation with digitalization for this we are discussing and negotiating with D.G.
