FAO and GEF 7
FAO is partnering with ICRISAT to build an M&E "datahub" for sustainable landscapes as part of a program funded by GEF to the tune of ~$60mn.
The vision is to build a digital monitoring system to show farmer progress towards indicators like SRP, Agrobiodiversity Index, etc.
Their approach feels pretty aligned to ours in terms of wanting to collect a bunch of data once, prepare analyses at various frameworks and levels (individual farmer, jurisdiction, landscape, project) and share it with various stakeholders incl policymakers, buyers, etc.
They also view govt stakeholders as the primary audience for these metrics in the near-term (until the market benefit through initiatives like Sustainable Rice Platform becomes more clear).
See attached presentation for reference.
We spoke with Beau Damen from the FAO in late April and he thought the data wallet was interesting. We agreed to reconnect as we each made progress on our work…
