Farmer Scorecard

A farmer scorecard has been designed with the initial purpose as stated below:

i) Indicate to the farmer her performance compared against aggregate values of other fellow farmers in her village against indicators such as adopting agriculture practices/inputs.

ii) Triangulating farmer’s data and sharing meaningful and actionable insights for her. For example sharing the impact on her crop yield by the use of different seed varieties, application of different types of fertilizer based on the peer farmer data collected in the process.

iii) Validate the information shared by the farmer through the village resource person during the data collection exercise. Farmer will have an opportunity to get her data corrected

Scorecard aims to provide

  • Quick and broad level view of how she has been investing and engaging in her farming activities

  • Benchmarking her indicators against similar farmers from her village would give her a good comparative view which possibly she did not have earlier at that scale

  • Reflection on the indicators she could think of improving upon

Expected behaviours to be impacted

  • Increasing awareness of activities that farmers in her village are performing

  • Increasing her appetite to take risk to try new activities/practices as she has authenticate, real time data to back her decisions

  • Increasing her confidence levels in the activities where she is performing above the benchmark values for her village

  • Motivating her to improve indicators which are below benchmark levels with ready actionable steps shared

  • Motivating her to share her data more responsibly with greater accuracy

VRP Feedback:

Scorecard layout was shared with 5 VRPs to understand their comprehension of the data points. Feedback had been collected from 4 VRPs at the time of writing this note:

  • 3 out of the 4 VRPs had no issue in understanding the data

  • 1 VRP needed assistance, post which she understood

  • Liked the comparison of yield values

  • VRPs shared some farmers would be able to understand the data shown in the scorecard and some might need assistance in understanding

  • VRPs suggested that the scorecard could be tested with farmers in the current form and data points modified based on feedback received from them
