Context: Proposed agenda for workshops with DG team to better leverage learnings from team and figure out how best to launch a co-creation process for DFN with farmer groups and other local stakeholders (government partners and potentially others). Aim to have these during Feb 2022 with FPO meetings to follow in March.

Meetings:

  • [Thu, Feb 24]: Jharkhand and Odisha w Ronali, Ritesh, Chandan; include Akash as well

  • [Mon, Feb 28]: AP with Archana, Narenda, Suri, Kamal

  • Ethiopia and Kenya agenda and timing TBC

Agenda:

  1. (30 min) What are we learning about farmer groups and their members:

    1. What are motivations of farmers to join producer groups? Why do farmers pay the registration fee with it, how involved (or not) are most individual members in its governance and functioning

    2. FPO needs esp things where tech / training can play a role? 

    3. Health and durability of FPOs; what % of members are participating in sales today and what will it take for that to increase?  

    4. Smartphone access / connectivity and tech literacy of farmer members and PG officers

  2. (15 min) What is the DFN vision, how does it relate to our core strategic pillars and overlap with existing project work? 

    1. Strategic pillars: Farmer income, climate resilience, and women's agency

    2. What are we doing with farmer groups in existing projects?

  3. (25 min) We believe access to buyers, finance and better input prices will create member stickiness w FPOs and have some ideas that relate to these themes. What do you all think? Do any of these stand out as particularly interesting? What else belongs on the list?

    1. Present the entry point ideas, invite questions. 

  4. Next steps (20 min). What is the best way to move forward?

    1. Intersection points between these use cases and existing project work?

    2. Is there an FPO that would be open to a ~6 month co-development sprint where we bring one of these ideas to life in close collaboration?

    3. Can we arrange a workshop similar to the one we just had to identify a compelling entry point with an FPO + resource institution + others? What are the seasonality and other logistics considerations we need to take into account? 

    4. Who are the local partners that we should collaborate with (SRLM, RIs, CBBOs, other NGOs, etc.)
