Kisan Diary Enterprise

What is Kisan Diary Enterprise (KDE)?

  • An integrated solution to help Farmer Producer Organisations (FPO) or Farmer Producer Groups (FPG) to collect farmer’s data of input demand and output available for sales. It consists of 3 tools working in sync in order to provide information to the partner organizations on real-time basis.

    • A mobile application (PG Officer) - It’s an android application to be used by the on-ground agent generally known as PG Officer or Community Resource Person (CRP). The agent is a representative of FPO for the farmers and similarly represents one or more groups of farmers (typically a group consisting of 20-25 members) to the FPO. The agent acts as the connecting node between the farmers and the producer org/group as a medium to communicate all relevant information.

    • FPO Dashboard - Each FPO is headed by a CEO who is responsible to ensure smooth functioning of day-to-day operations and expansion of business. The CEO uses this dashboard to get all the information about the demand among the farmers for the input item like seeds, fertilizers, equipment, etc. At the same time, the dashboard provides information about the crop and corresponding available quantity at each farmer level along with a consolidated view at the PG level. This empowers FPOs to reach more buyers, convert leads into sales and manage sales opportunities confidently.

    • Buyer Interface - A responsive web-based interface that makes the FPOs output catalog visible to all the potential buyers like institutions and end consumers. It’s a digital catalog of the FPO's products and provides details of the FPO to directly connect and place orders.

Challenges the KDE addresses?

  • Current Ad-hoc and paper-based data collection limits the value creation and adds delay to the process

  • Lack of aggregated information leads to increased overhead cost

  • Poor coordination results in lost sales opportunities

  • Lack of access to markets and capital

  • Poor track record of engaging women as members and leaders

  • Limited off-take results in member churn, side-selling, and overall disengagement

Benefits of KDE?

  • Aggregation of data provides visibility to group and farmer level visibility making it easier to expand its members i.e. smallholder farmers and take corrective action wherever required.

  • Consolidated input demand and output supply data at the right time increases the conversion rate leading to higher sales to farmers for inputs and market for output crops.

  • Through digital buyer interface, greater visibility in the market increases the opportunities and demand capturing options for the FPO

  • The government’s focus on establishing 10,000 more FPO by 2024 makes it essential to have proper systems in place to be able to identify and track the activities of the FPOs.

  • FPOs need to use technology to match the increasing competition, maintain low costs while expanding their operations.
